The Last Bad Word

There is what seems to me to be an interesting approach to child-management and discipline in our schools today. I think of it as the last bad word principle. Child 1 quietly, verbally goads or provokes child 2. Sooner or later, child 2 reacts by making an inappropriate comment, probably a little too loudly. Teacher hears child 2’s unacceptable comment just after child 1 moves away from the situation. Since teacher did not actually observe the incident, she asks who said whatever. Child 2 may admit to the comment; and if not, one of the other children is quick to tattle. Teacher then disciplines child 2 and child 1 is home free. Sure, child 2 had it coming; but ….
